Washed out colour on a secondary display using Photoshop CS3…

This issue almost drove me insane. For the last two days I’ve been having major Photoshop CS3 colour issues on my 20” high definition 2007WFP Dell - which is used as a secondary display to my spanking new MacBook Pro.

The solution, was stupidly simple, but had me almost putting my fist through my monitor.

A bit of background

This is the difference in colours I was experiencing
(Left is what was on screen, right is what was being outputted to file)
Difference in colours, left image washed out

Using the extended desktop, I could drag a washed out photoshop canvas from my Dell Monitor onto my MacBook Pro monitor, and as soon as I released the mouse, the colour would become rich again. Visa Versa, when I dragged it back onto the Dell Monitor, it would stay rich until I released the mouse and bam, back to being washed out and ‘pale’.

The Solution

Sooooo, after a lot of experimenting, and reading, the issue is caused by 1 little tickbox which, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why it would be ticked by default.

Go to Edit > Colour Settings > More options > Untick “Desaturate Monitor Colours By: 19%”
