WYMeditor Fieldtype for ExpressionEngine

I’ve just knocked together a quick WYMeditor Fieldtype which I’m happy to share with anyone that’s interested.

Its built on Brandon Kelly’s excellent Fieldframe framework, so you’ll need to grab that, and enable jQuery in the cp via your favorite flavor.

Grab it after the jump:

Crumbee: ExpressionEngine breadcrumbs plugin

Just written my first EE plugin, appropriately named Crumbee, its pretty crummy really.

It basically grabs the url of the current page and builds a breadcrumb trail from that, replacing a “-” or a “_” with a space and capitalising the words. Very handy when using the EE pages module and/you/have/long/urls.

Getting my hands dirty with CodeIgniter

I’ve slowly been learning PHP over the last couple of years, mostly doing simple things like creating variables, includes, mathematical operations and the like. Recently I’ve been wanting to get explore a framework such as Cake or Symphony to see if that would spark more enthusiasm and assistance for learning. Well, since EllisLab announced ExpressionEngine 2.0 will run on on CodeIgniter - I’ve got the perfect excuse to get busy with it.

I’m a certified EE addict

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking… Iain has developed a nasty habit and needs to go to rehab.

Nah, I haven’t lost it, I’ve only just got started. Today I just got my application back from EllisLab and I’m over the moon to be part of the ExpressionEngine Professionals Network. Go me.

Mr Internet Explorer, you need a royal thrashing with the browser stick

If you are using Internet Explorer get off my site now and install firefox.

Today I spent the best part of 5 hours debugging a simple menu for a client and I swear, if i had seen Mr Gates walking down the street I would have slapped him silly. That time, plus an uncountable stupendous amount of time debugging other sites was lost in unbillable heaven. Gone.

Mr Internet Explorer, I’ve got better things to be doing with my time.

Anyone for a slice of workshop? Maybe conference then

It had to happen sooner or later… For the first time in yonks I’m doing some professional development without using google, or reading the manual, or trial and error, or emailing someone, or getting a nerd to do it..

Spring is here and its time for spring cleaning

To celebrate spring, I’ve redeveloped iain.co.nz.
It happened quite spontaneously when i returned from my trip home - all in all, it took me 5 hours to redesign, code, and migrate from Wordpress to Expression Engine.

ExpressionEngine does it for me

I think I’ve found the holy grail of Content Management Systems for average joe coders such as myself. If your down and dirty with plain old html and dabble in php - then given a couple of weeks of tinkering, you can have a full blown dynamic website that knocks the socks of anything you’ve done before.

After 6 weeks in the wop wops of the Hebrides, I’m finally back in the altogether pleasantness of Whangarei. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and I’m sure I’ve got less things to worry about…
